Welcome! I'm Marion Bull, a South Carolina-based nature videographer and photographer.

 

Through Leland Creative, I aim to share the beauty of the natural world that we miss while living our fast-paced, super-civilized lives. I hope this site inspires you to love, appreciate, and ultimately help protect the natural history that is quintessentially South Carolina.

 

My photography career has been a long and winding road. I started in photojournalism, commercial photography and nature image print sales. That was in the film days. Later I moved on to publishing, marketing, business development...you know, the typical corporate ladder thing. I never gave up photography completely though, and my desire to create was always tugging at my sleeve. In 2020 I got back into nature photography and started shooting video for the first time.

 

Today I focus on what inspires me, primarily the wildlife and scenery of my native state. Video gives me the opportunity to add context, movement, and sound. I shoot for communicating a sense of being there. With animals I am not just looking for portraits. I'm looking for behaviors that illustrate their life cycle and habitat. For that reason, my videos tend to be longer and somewhat more contemplative than typically found on social media. Short, over-the-top Tik-Toks are not my thing. You'll need to embrace the slower pace.

 

I have limited time in the field (I'm not doing this full-time right now), so I shoot when I can, pursuing my own projects and doing some work for local conservation groups. One of my hobbies is backpacking, which has taken me to the Tetons and the Wind River Range in Wyoming. I have started doing annual self-guided photo trips out there, so you will see some western wildlife here as well.
